When the storm feels too loud…
the light inside them can't be put out.
A story for every child who feels too much — and for every adult who loves them. Brighter Than the Storm gives children and families a language for healing, and a reason to hope.
This Book Is For You
Every child deserves someone who understands.
Whether you’re a child with big feelings, a parent searching for the right words, a teacher holding space in your classroom, or a counselor helping someone heal — this book was written with you in mind.
"You are not alone in your big feelings."
Victoria knows what it’s like to have a storm inside. Sometimes feelings are too big to name, too heavy to carry, too confusing to explain. This story shows you that those feelings make sense — and that you have what it takes to walk through them.
The Feelings Weather Chart helps you name what’s happening inside so the storm doesn’t have to stay a secret. Because when you can name it, you can face it.

"You can guide your child through the storm."
Parenting a child through hard seasons is one of the most challenging and most important things you’ll ever do. You may not have all the answers — but you can give your child something even more powerful: a shared language for what they’re feeling.
Brighter Than the Storm opens conversations that are sometimes too hard to start on your own. Read it together and let Victoria’s story do the work.
📖 Read it together. Take turns, pause at the feelings chart, and ask: which one are you today?
🗓️ Make it a ritual. Post the Feelings Weather Chart on the fridge and check in daily.
💬 Follow your child’s lead. Let the story open the door — you don’t have to have the perfect words.
A Story You Can Both Lean On
When words are hard to find, a shared story can say everything.
A simple conversation starter
"This book is about a girl named Victoria who has big feelings. Want to read it with me?"
What your child needs to hear
Their feelings are real, they are not alone, and you are there — no matter the weather.
"You can give your students a language for what they feel."
Children spend more waking hours with their teachers than almost any other adult in their lives. When a child is struggling emotionally, you’re often the first to notice. You can’t fix what happens at home — but you can create a classroom where feelings have names, and names lead to healing.
Brighter Than the Storm is designed as a classroom read-aloud and discussion resource for grades 1–6, aligned with SEL competencies.
📚 Use it as a read-aloud. The weather metaphor translates naturally into everyday emotional vocabulary.
📋 Post the Feelings Chart. Refer to it daily — make checking in a classroom norm.
🤝 Pair with SEL. Activities align with self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness standards.
🏫 Share with school counselors. Circle of Support activities map naturally to counseling conversations.
For the Classroom
Grades 1–6 read-aloud
Vocabulary and concepts accessible to early readers, meaningful for older students.
NAMI aligned
Supports mental health awareness frameworks recommended for school settings.
"A powerful tool for your sessions."
Sometimes the most important conversations begin with a story. When a child can point to Victoria and say “that’s me” — the work begins. Brighter Than the Storm gives you a bridge into feelings that are otherwise difficult to access in a clinical setting.
The Feelings Weather Chart is a concrete, non-threatening tool for emotional identification — ideal for children who struggle to articulate their inner world in traditional talk therapy formats.
🌡️ Use the Feelings Chart as an intake tool. Ask clients to point to their weather at the start of each session.
📖 Bibliotherapy made accessible. Victoria’s story normalizes emotional struggle and help-seeking.
🔗 Aligned with NAMI frameworks. Supports best practices in children’s mental health awareness and emotional literacy.

What Others Are Saying
Lives already being touched.
This book gave my students a vocabulary for emotions they didn’t know how to express. The Feelings Weather Chart is now a permanent part of my classroom. I cannot recommend it enough.

As a school counselor, I’m always looking for tools that meet children where they are. This book does exactly that — and it opens conversations I couldn’t have started any other way.

My daughter read this in one sitting, then asked if we could make our own Feelings Weather Chart together. That moment alone was worth everything. This book is a treasure.
